OUR SOLAR SYSTEM UNIT
Hi there. My unit about "The Solar System" is addressed to 2nd level of primary education (Science).
The main goal of this unit is to learn about the Earth and Moon in the Solar System as well as its movements and their consequences.
The objectives of the unit are:
To learn about the Sun, the Earth, the Moon and their relevant movements.
To understand the phases of the Moon.
To be able to describe the Earth’s movements and the existence of seasons.
To investigate about the shapes of the Moon.
To investigate about the reasons for day and night
To use information and communication technologies in order to look for information by following some Internet links.
To sing songs and make artistic works.
The unit will consist of 7 sessions, being the last one to record a video clip.
Along these sessions, the activities and final task students will do are the following ones:
A mural with the phases of the moon, using Oreo cookies.
Listening about the planets.
Labelling the planets.
Singing songs and raps.
Cutting and sticking pictures to show the phases of the moon.
Investigating if the moon changes shape.
Listening and reading about the Earth’s orbit around the Sun.
Acting out the solar system.
Cut-out activity: Sticking the phases of the moon in order.
Investigating and writing about day and night.
Identifying the seasons and labelling photos of them.
Saying a chant about months and listening, reading and writing about the seasons.
Doing a class survey about their favourite season.
Play Sentence and flashcard match.
Moon mural.
Art: Day and night picture.
Drama: Seasons role play.
Design: Make a model.
Record a video clip with “The Solar System” song.

Mi webmix
Aquí podéis ver la web mix que he creado con recursos para trabajar las asignaturas de inglés y Science en primaria.
Por un lado podéis ver bloques de color verde. En estos bloques hay enlaces a página relacionadas con Science: juegos, clips, experimentos, videos, etc. En el centro de la webmix hay enlace a páginas con recursos interesantes para la asignatura de inglés: juegos, historias, actividades de gramática, vocabulario, etc. Por último, en la parte derecha de la webmix y en color naranja, hay enlaces a páginas donde nuestros alumnos practicar listenings de diferentes niveles.
Todos estos contenidos los he seleccionado porque creo que contribuyen a un aprendizaje significativo.

“Principios y Aspectos Básicos AICLE”
La unidad didáctica se titula The Solar System. Pertenece a la asignatura Natural and Social Sciences de segundo de primaria.
1.El trabajo de lengua y contenido a la vez se observa durante toda la unidad, ya que es 100% en L2 (inglés) por lo cual se desarrolla con todo el vocabulario específico en la L2.
Además, mientras incide en los contenidos específicos, trabaja estructuras del inglés como el presente simple del verto TO BE y TO HAVE. Example:
Is the Moon a planet? Yes, it is / No it isn't.
Has Mercury got 5 moons? Yes, it has/ No it hasn't
También, destacar el uso de "Classroom Management" expressions como:
· How do you say in English …?
· Can you repeat it, please?
· I don't understand it/ I don't know.
· I think …
Por último, citar el trabajo de diferentes habilidades para la mejora de la L2 a la vez que se asimilan los contenidos: readings, listenings, speakings (working in pairs) and writings.
2. Por otro lado creo que los contenidos se presentan con una adecuada progresión en las tareas, empezando con videos motivantes para pasar a rellenar huecos usando estructuras del idioma y finalizar haciendo preguntas respuestas con el compañero, por ejemplo.
Las tareas parecen aplicables a los alumnos de esta edad, tanto en dificultad de los contenidos como en la variedad de presentación para hacérselas atractivas.
- Andamiaje. En cuanto a la Zona de desarrollo próximo, aunque no se puede evaluar sin ver el nivel exacto de los alumnos y su interacción con el profesor, sí se puede intuir que en los ejercicios por parejas los alumnos destacados podrán fomentar el aprendizaje de los más retrasados.
- Atención a las destrezas. Se trabaja tanto a nivel receptivo (con actividades de read and match, crosswords, listenings...) como a nivel productivo (speaking in pairs , complete sentences, answer the questions...)

Hello!
I'm Irene and I work as an English and CLIL teacher in CEIP Mediterráneo, Pilar de la Horadada.
I learnt about CLIL when I was studying. Then, in my school we started a multilingual project based on CLIL methodology six years algo. We teach Natural Science and Arts and Crafts in English and Physical Education and "Valencian Culture" in Valencian language. I agree on including CLIL in our schools because it has lots of advantages. It allows language to be used for real purpose and in context, and it is a very effective way of linking with other subjects. Also it is very motivating because children learn English through topics they are interested in such as plants, human body, solar system, etc, and they learn the language without thinking about it.
When I signed up in this course I was very excited about learning new activities and ideas to put into practice with my students, but now I am disappointed. Up to now we had to create presentations, talk about other presentations, sign up in twitter, tweet things, retweet people's tweets, open a blog... and I don't think all of this is useful at all. I hope this course gets interesting otherwise I will give up.
